Highlights of the week:

All of my kindergarten students were happy to be back in school this week including their teacher! We were all eager to find out about all of  the adventures we had during Fall break and to continue our learning at school! We jumped right back into our morning routine of Family Time, Morning Writing/Integration Time, Literacy Centers/ Reading Guided & Math without missing a beat! We continue to practice good writing skills of capitalization, punctuation, spacing, spelling site words and some theme words correctly & stretching out other words when we write sentences. We even practiced sentence dictation this week. I dictated three sentences to the class with words which included site words and CVC words to give the class practice in using the writing & vocabulary skills on their own. This week we also began a study of Fall. We read several non-fiction books about the season & then captured the details we read about in the books using a word web. We will also practice fall words with other activities including in the writing center during Literacy Centers. Along with other Fall activities this week, each kinder made a large scarecrow and a scarecrow book with a word tree about what scarecrows are, can do and what they have. The children did a fabulous job following directions to make their scarecrows. They will bring them home next week so they can use them to decorate their own homes! They look awesome in our classroom now! The class also learned how to use a new app for reading called Razkids this week. With this app, I assign books to the children. Following reading or listening to the books, the children take a quiz to check their comprehension. Everyone was very excited about a new opportunity to read books on their tablets. In the afternoon, we continue to strengthen our reading and writing skills with Dr. Heggerty phonetic awareness activities, Jolly Phonics/Integration Time,  & Writing/ Reading Workshop. As you know we also have a special in the afternoon of either Fine Arts/ Gym and Discovery Centers to round out our fun-filled learning day! Finally, we have all enjoyed the ABC homework this week including an Icky Game that some children played on Friday!

Happy Fall Weekend!

Angie Kelly

P.S. Don’t forget about the Fall Festival of Fun at Ridge October 23rd, 6-8 p.m. I am sorry that I can not attend as I will be seeing and visiting my new grandson for the first time!
