HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK:

We continue to work in literacy centers each week: reading to self, reading to others, writing, making words and listening. Every sixth day the activities in these centers change. This week for example, children are using QR codes to read books to themselves and responding to the book in writing, reading a fiction or nonfiction book to another student and responding to the book in writing, writing what he/she likes to do in winter, and making -ake words and using one of the words in a sentence. When the student finishes the center, he/she can choose a literacy activity from their choice board. Look for this work in your child’s folder. In math, we continue to complete various activities in the areas of decomposing, composing and sequencing numbers. In science, we have just completed our bridge and tower challenges. Next week we will begin a short review of the characteristics of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Please remember that the Spelling lists are handed out each Monday with a test on Friday. Please study the words with your child. We have Library every Tuesday. Please help your child remember to put their library book in their backpack each time they read their book so that it can be returned to school. Also Book Sharing begins this week, so please check the calendar that was sent home for your child’s day to share their book with the class. Student of the Week also resumes this week. Finally, Jump Rope for Heart is scheduled for next Friday afternoon, February 26.
