WE Day Illinois 2016
On April 28 the 5th graders from the Ridge Family Center for Learning attended the 2nd annual WE Day Illinois at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont. Over 15,000 students attended from schools in Illinois to celebrate youth making a difference in their local and global communities. Ridge students this school year participated in various fundraisers including canned food drives and raising money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, as well as the American Heart Association through Jump Rope for Heart donations.
WE Day brings together youth to celebrate their power to change the world as they learn about new issues and gain inspiration to take action. Students saw performances by Nico and Vinz, The Voice winner Jordan Smith, the professional youth choir Soul Children of Chicago, and Grammy Award winning singer Ciara. Students also heard inspirational messages from a variety of speakers including Martin Luther King III, Henry Winkler, Paula Abdul and WE Day founders Craig and Marc Kielburger.
