VIDEO: Grove Cultural Bash
a
Last week, students from Grove Junior High and other CCSD59 schools came together to celebrate various countries of origin at the first Cultural Bash held by the school. Students, families, staff members, and board of education members visited booths in the gymnasium featuring various artifacts, cuisine, music, and photos about countries from around the world. Each booth was hosted by someone who originally hails from that country and helped visitors complete passports with activities and trivia for the event.
The idea came from one parent, Michelle Naumann, who helped successfully organize the event when it originally took place at Salt Creek Elementary several years ago. Now, with students at Grove Junior High, she worked with families and staff members to make the celebration possible once again.
The evening also featured performances by CCSD59 alumni in the Folkloric Dance Club from Elk Grove High School and demonstrations by the local American Tiger Karate Academy.
The countries featured included:
- Burma
- Colombia
- Czech Republic
- El Salvador
- Germany
- Greece
- Guatemala
- Honduras
- Lithuania
- Morocco
- Netherlands
- Peru
- Philippines
- Poland
- Syria
- Ukraine
