Photos: State Sen. Ann Gillespie (D-Arlington Heights) visits Holmes students as Principal for a Day
Students and staff at Holmes Junior High had the opportunity to connect with a state legislator on Monday, as Sen. Ann Gillespie (D-Arlington Heights) made a visit as part of the “Principal for a Day” Program through the Illinois Principals Association. This program connects schools with legislators in their district to connect with students and staff while performing certain administrative duties during the day.
Sen. Gillespie took questions from Mr. Mark Schwarz’s seventh grade students about the role of a senator and how her work has impacted nearby communities. She also met with various staff members from the Holmes Counseling and Intervention Teams as well as administration to discuss several issues affecting schools, including lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, what impact her legislation has had on students, and what effects could be seen in the future.
As a former CCSD59 parent, Sen. Gillespie also paid a visit to a hallway display of previous Holmes classes to find the yearbook photos of her two children, who graduated from Holmes in 1999 and 2004.
